2007 | the One-Night Stands (graphica)

launched at the 2007 Toronto Comic Arts Festival
A series of drawings concentrating on intimate vulnerable moments of strangers. Reference material of random people sleeping found online and in magazines; Each drawing following the principles of a one-night stand: completed in one evening and then reference material (aka. the person involved) discarded. Focus on the process of drawing as a way to ‘get to know’ a subject in intimate detail, recording a vulnerable moment on paper and then letting it slip into the past. Words are used sparingly and meant to excite two different meanings – both the literal narrative, as well as a foreboding implication that something else might have been afoot (aka. “I didn’t even have to ask”, “I threw this one out”, a tone that might more appropriately apply to a stalker than an intimate partner.)
